What is Asperger Syndrome?

in

Asperger Syndrome (AS) is a social communication disorder affecting key aspects of social understanding, language usage and sensory integration. Typically first observed in early childhood, symptoms of this disposition include autistic-like preoccupations with factual information and special interests, a preference for seeking knowledge over socializing and general awkwardness in engaging with others comfortably. Those with AS usually have a good vocabulary and above average intelligence. However, they still may feel lost in the subtleties of everyday social interactions.  Individuals with AS can vary significantly in their range of strengths and weaknesses. An individualized education or employment assessment is often a vital component of management. Because of their potential, individuals with Asperger Syndrome can make a significant contribution in a school or employment setting.
